I noticed layers and layers of sound that I hadn’t heard before – effects took on new life and the entire sense of ‘energy’ in the game changed as a result.Īfter this I tried Halo Legends and Forward Unto Dawn. The detail and richness in the sound is ridiculous compared to my home cinema. No word of overstatement here: I was blown away. Note that turning the headset on does not mute the sound through HDMI or your Audio Receiver – so be sure to set up the ‘Xbox, Mute’ command by telling the console your TV model in the settings menu. Additionally the memory foam padding does a surprisingly great job of blocking out ambient / background noise. It moulds to your head and ears and provides an even pressure that’s not too harsh as some headsets can be – extended use reveals it doesn’t cause any sore spots. The large cans (which have a really neat green internal finish) have a “memory-foam” cushion around the edge. My console was already booted up – so no idea if you get the prompt on screen if the adaptor is in before you turn the console on. The update was fast and painless – over in a minute or so. ![]() On plugging the adaptor into my controller, the console prompted me to update the controller (I found this a bit odd as I had already done this once with the March update). It definitely feels bespoke to the console and not like a Chinese headset with a new logo as some off the shelf ones do. Thankfully that quality carries through to the headset itself.įirst impressions were very good – out of the box the headset feels well made and had the same Matte / Gloss contrasting design as the rest of Xbox One. ![]() The packaging was really nice – not an important point, sure, but all the packaging for official Xbox One products feels very ‘premium’ / high quality and this headset is no exception. It comes with the headset itself, the controller stereo headset adaptor and a micro USB cable. The headset seems to be retailing for around £60 to £70 (ish) in the UK. I paid £51 for the headset after using some reward points toward the cost. I’ve been using it a lot since it arrived so thought I’d post a review for any of you guys still on the fence.
